Green Shirt Day 2026 Kicks Off in Lethbridge, Alberta

March 3, 2026 (Lethbridge, AB) – Green Shirt Day, Canada’s annual day to honour organ donors and celebrate the life-saving impact of organ and tissue donation, will take place on April 7, 2026, under the theme:

“One Decision Can Create a Lasting Ripple Effect.”

This year’s campaign highlights how a single choice — to register as an organ donor and share that decision with loved ones — can extend far beyond one person, touching families, communities, and countless lives across the country.

Green Shirt Day was inspired by the story of Logan Boulet, Humboldt Broncos defenceman and Lethbridge native, whose decision to become an organ donor saved six lives following the tragic 2018 bus crash. Logan’s choice sparked what became known as the Logan Boulet Effect, leading to record numbers of Canadians registering as organ donors in the weeks that followed.

His legacy continues to demonstrate how one decision can create a ripple that transforms lives nationwide.

“Every year, Green Shirt Day reminds Canadians that a single act of compassion can have an extraordinary impact,” says Logan’s father, Toby Boulet.

“When someone chooses to become an organ donor, they are not just helping one person — they are creating a ripple that reaches families and entire communities across Canada,” adds Logan’s mother, Bernadine Boulet.

His Worship Mayor Blaine Hyggen of the City of Lethbridge shares:

“Green Shirt Day is a powerful reminder of the legacy of Logan Boulet and the incredible impact organ donation can have in saving lives. Here in Lethbridge, we are proud of the Boulet family’s courage and leadership, which has inspired a national movement of hope, generosity, and awareness. I encourage everyone in our community to learn about organ donation, register their intent, and have that important conversation with loved ones. Together, we honour Logan’s memory by choosing to make a difference.”

2026 Campaign Design: A Story Woven in Green

The 2026 campaign proudly features the winning design from the Green Shirt Day National Logo Design Contest, created by Candace Sernowsky of Lorette West, Manitoba.

Her design incorporates powerful visual elements — a worn hockey aesthetic, a flying puck, crossed hockey sticks, a green organ donation ribbon, and Logan Boulet’s number 27 — symbolizing movement, legacy, and hope.

Candace’s connection to organ donation is deeply personal. On September 29, 2025, she donated her left kidney through the Kidney Paired Donation Program in Vancouver. When she learned she could not directly donate to her cousin due to an antibody mismatch, she chose to participate in the paired donation program — a life-changing chain of donations run by Canadian Blood Services that enables multiple people to receive transplants.

Her story reflects the very heart of this year’s theme: one decision can create a ripple that saves and transforms multiple lives.

Supporting a Life-Saving Cause

Today, more than 4,000 Canadians are waiting for a life-saving transplant. Each year, approximately 250 people die waiting.

The goal of Green Shirt Day 2026 is to inspire Canadians to:

  • Register their decision about organ and tissue donation.

  • Share their wishes with family and friends.

  • Talk to at least four more people about donation — multiplying the ripple effect.

The Boulet family, the Canadian Transplant Association, Canadian Blood Services, The Kidney Foundation of Canada, and Canada’s organ and tissue donation community are urging Canadians to champion this life-saving cause. (Register Online Here)
