Geoffery Kehrig: Winner of the Green Shirt Day 2025 Design Contest

Green Shirt Day has always been a powerful reminder of the strength and generosity within our communities. Each year, we’re moved by the stories, the designs, and the people who contribute to the mission of organ donation awareness. This year, we are proud to announce Geoffery Kehrig as the winner of the Green Shirt Day 2025 design contest, whose thoughtful and evocative design has captured the hearts of many.

Geoffery’s Connection to Humboldt and the Broncos

Geoffery’s connection to Green Shirt Day runs deep, rooted in both his personal experiences and his profound love for the game of hockey. Reflecting on the 2018 Humboldt Broncos bus crash, Geoffery shared, “The 2018 Humboldt Broncos bus crash opened a lot of memories for me. I grew up in Humboldt, Saskatchewan —— and I’m a HUGE hockey fan. The Humboldt Broncos were THE superstars of my hometown.”

As a proud registered organ donor, Geoffery felt deeply inspired by Logan Boulet’s legacy, the young man whose unselfish decision to donate his organs saved lives and sparked a national movement for organ and tissue donation. This act of generosity, now known as the “Logan Boulet Effect,” resonated with Geoffery. “After the bus crash, I purchased a Logan Boulet Humboldt Broncos jersey and I’ve proudly worn it while playing pick-up street hockey in my BC community,” he shared. “I’m inspired by Logan’s unselfish choices and his reverence and compassion for others.”

The Inspiration Behind the Design

Geoffery’s design is not just a tribute to Logan Boulet, but a reflection of the virtues he holds dear. Drawing from key words like Reverence, Honour, Courage, and Compassion, Geoffery found parallels between Logan Boulet and another Canadian icon, Terry Fox. Terry’s selfless drive to raise awareness for cancer research, despite his own struggles, became a beacon of hope for many, much like Logan’s unexpected yet impactful contribution to organ donation.

“I was inspired by the silhouettes of Terry Fox that are often used on T-shirts for the Terry Fox Run,” Geoffery explained. “Terry was an elite athlete, and he selflessly gave for the benefit of others. I see parallels with Logan Boulet’s selfless and unexpected contributions to organ and tissue donations.”

Explanation of the Design

Geoffery’s winning design reflects a dynamic, memorable image of Logan Boulet in action, capturing the moment of him taking a slap shot. “I wanted the image to have the feel of a hockey jersey logo,” Geoffery said. The design draws inspiration from the colours and spirit of the Humboldt Broncos, incorporating green—the official colour of organ and tissue donation, symbolizing the hope that organ donors provide to patients in need.

Geoffery’s design prominently features Logan Boulet and his number “27,” a symbol of the lasting impact Logan has made, not only on the hockey world but on countless lives through his gift of organ donation. The image not only captures Logan’s energy and love for the game but also honours the Broncos players and staff who tragically lost their lives in the 2018 bus crash. Geoffery poignantly stated, “Their names, stories will always be remembered for the beauty, love, and joy they gave to the game of hockey, their families, the spirit of sport, and to the town of Humboldt.”
