Green Shirt Day Kickoff 2025 in Edmonton

February 19, 2025 (EDMONTON, AB) – For the first time, the national Green Shirt Day campaign is launching in Edmonton, marking a significant milestone in the movement inspired by Logan Boulet’s selfless decision to become an organ and tissue donor. The event highlights the powerful impact of the Logan Boulet Effect, which has inspired hundreds of thousands of Canadians to register as organ and tissue donors since 2018 and continues to spark life-saving conversations about organ donation.

At today’s event, Logan’s family officially unveiled the winning design of the 2025 Green Shirt Day T-shirt, selected from a national competition. The dynamic image of Logan taking a slap shot was created by artist Geoffrey Kehrig, a registered organ and tissue donor who grew up in Humboldt, Saskatchewan.

“After the bus crash, I purchased a Logan Boulet Humboldt Broncos jersey and I’ve proudly worn it while playing pick-up street hockey in my B.C. community,” Kehrig shared. “I’m inspired by Logan’s unselfish choices and his reverence and compassion for others.”

This seventh annual Green Shirt Day—set for April 7, 2025—honors the 16 lives lost in the 2018 Humboldt Broncos bus crash while continuing Logan’s mission to raise awareness about the importance of organ and tissue donation. Logan, who had spoken to his parents about his wishes, saved six lives with his organ and tissue donations on April 7, 2018. His act of kindness sparked a nationwide movement that continues to grow.

Spreading Awareness & Encouraging Conversations

“Logan’s legacy reminds us how important it is for Canadians to talk with their families about their organ and tissue donation wishes,” says Logan’s mother, Bernadine Boulet. “It will be up to families to give consent.”

Logan’s father, Toby Boulet, echoes this sentiment: “We would love that for every person who registers their intent to donate, they speak with four others about donation. Keep the conversation going… it’s so important.”

Green Shirt Day organizers are urging Canadians to take action by registering their decision and encouraging 100,000 new registrations in 2025. With more than 4,000 Canadians waiting for a life-saving transplant and approximately 250 people dying each year while waiting, the need for donors is critical.
