Together Strong Face Mask Fundraising Campaign Launched

Press Release

November 26, 2020

The Canadian Transplant Association along with Green Shirt Day and Vistaprint Corporate Solutions have created a Together Strong RFSTM face mask as a special fundraiser for Canada’s organ donation community.

For every Together Strong face mask sold by Vistaprint Corporate Solutions, five dollars will be donated to support various charitable organizations across Canada that support and promote organ donation, including the Canadian Transplant Association.

“The funds we raise from selling these Together Strong masks will be used to support our education and awareness programs, to remind people of the importance of organ donation and encourage registration” explains Brenda Brown, president of the Canadian Transplant Association.

The last 8 months have been challenging for most Canadians. Those in the organ donation community are no exception, having been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in a number of ways including:

  • Fears around COVID-19 exposure due to transplant recipients having compromised immune systems
  • Lower number of deceased donations available and a decline in organ donation registrations
  • Cancelled events normally providing the CTA with revenue and awareness
  • Cancelled and/or delayed transplant surgeries
  • Delayed testing for potential living donors
  • Increased demand for patient support and medical assistance (immune compromised community)

This fundraiser is an opportunity to help the Canadian Transplant Association continue its advocacy and awareness work. It is important for this work to continue in order to increase donor registrations and ultimately save lives.

About the Canadian Transplant Association

The Canadian Transplant Association (CTA), is a registered charitable organization founded in 1987 to enrich and celebrate life while promoting organ and tissue donation. Our members share a unique bond and include transplant recipients, candidates on transplant wait lists, donor families, living donors, families, friends and health care professionals

About Green Shirt Day

The Canada-wide Green Shirt Day was created to remember the victims and families of the tragic Humboldt Broncos bus crash in Saskatchewan in 2018. And, to continue Logan Boulet’s legacy by inspiring Canadians to register as organ donors and to talk to their families about their wishes. Also a time to honour & remember organ donors and their families.

On April 7, learning that he would not recover, Bernadine and Toby Boulet offered to donate their son, Logan Boulet’s, organs. They did so because Logan had registered as an organ donor and had spoken to his parents about his wishes. His generous final act inspired more than 100,000 donor registrations across Canada shortly thereafter, which became known as the Logan Boulet Effect. To date there has been over 300,000 registrations across Canada.
